Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary
The Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, 111 kms from Agartala is famous for its rich variety of flora and fauna. Occupying an area of 197.7 sq km, it was established in 1988. The vegetation of the sanctuary consists of four types of forest – the tropical semi-evergreen forest, the east Himalayan lower Bhanar Sal, Moist mixed deciduous forest and the Savanah woodland.
Some of the major attractions of the sanctuary are the Indian Gaur (Bison), Deer, Hooklock Gibbon, Golden langur, Pheasants, Lalmukh Bandar, Wild Boar, Wild Cat, Leopard. It is also a home to a great variety of reptiles and different species of resident and migratory birds .
Wildlife enthusiasts and animal lovers are going to love this expedition. This is also a great place to visit for wildlife photographers. So make sure you are carrying enough ammo if you're going there for a good collection of photos. You will be able to spot various wild animals including the world-famous Indian Gaur, deer, golden langurs, pheasants, among others.
The Bison reserve was established in the Trishna sanctuary to protect the endangered species. The reserve's primary objective was to restore the natural living habitat of the Bison. It also helped in tightening laws which can protect them from poachers. The sanctuary has a lot many water bodies and rivulets present, which act as a source of water for the reserve. But all you need to do is just open your shoes, dip your feet in the water and just listen to the song of the trees and birds. Very few places can offer you such serenity.
The area is filled with herbs, shrubs, tree species, climbers etc. To be exact, there are 230 trees, 110 shrubs, 150 climbers and 400 herbs found in the sanctuary. This biodiversity is the result of four types of forests present in the sanctuary, namely Tropical semi-evergreen forest, east Himalayan lower Bhabar sal, moist mixed deciduous forest and Savannah woodland. Birdwatchers should keep their binoculars at hand all the time, for you can spot the White-breasted Kingfisher, Indian Black Drongo, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Tailorbird, Jungle Myna, Hornbill and other such exquisite species.
